This nugget is eye-catching - so fanciful in personality and strange prehistoric-type features that it overwhelms the imagination. Somewhat dinasaur-like in appearance - in fact it resembles a fabled creature of old, which was referred to as the Feathered Dragon. In the Mayan culture it was known as "Quetzalcotl" the Feathered Serpent, and it ruled over the rain forest of the Amazon in the 3rd to 8th centuries. Highly feared, respected and revered, the creature quite often was represented in ancient sculptures and carvings with the head of a dragon and the giant rattles of a deadly snake. The god of vegetation and crops, the "Quetzalkotl" commanded
much respect and reverence.
So this nugget of distinction is the ideal Golden Icon with its genuine mystique and primeval features. How this thing survived thousands of years buried in the vaulted pressure of a tumultuous earth, is a miracle. And the fact that we were fortunate enough to find it still unchanged after all this time is a wonder.
