The one that almost got away!    

“Almost” because I “almost didn’t check this tiny little spot with a metal detector!” 

It was in a different setting on a steep side-hill,

and I was sure there would be nothing there, and it would be a futile effort

– a waste of precious daylight. 

 I was a long-ways from anywhere and had a specific and preferred spot that I was headed to further on down the trail.  So, I hunted that “preferred” spot all day and was hiking back to my rig – empty handed.  As I passed below that difficult little area I mentioned earlier, the dark-colored Volkswagen-sized boulder and the brush-lined small clearing just below it wouldn’t let me ignore it any longer!  So, tired as I was, off I wandered up the hill – truthfully not feeling real smart about it.  There wasn’t much room at all to swing a detector and when the machine sounded off, I figured I would be digging up another old bullet. 

Well, by golly don’t ya know! Look at the reward for my effort! 

Taught me a lesson, right there ...don’t give up!

 An astounding gold nugget that kind of looks like a bear.  

What’s really neat is he’ll lay on his back with his feet in the air! 

Turned out to be a successful day after all!  

I’m sure glad I made that last little detour up the hill!
